My personal approach to palm readings uses the knowledge-based the information. This is gathered through the hand features as well as the lines on the palms.
If you have not yet settled happily into your career, you may be wondering what kind of career choices would actually suit you? The basic features of the hand and fingers can give clues about temperament and natural talents.
People inherit many physical features and character traits from their parents, and we are all unique. The basic shape of the hand is an important part of reading the palms. It helps us determine the most fundamental character of the person.
The fingers are a tremendous part of palmistry because they can show how we express ourselves and how we have developed in the past. We all have distinctive looks and the same goes for our psychological makeup, and that is why reading hands can become very involved and complicated. It is this personal disposition that reflects in our hands from birth.
If you have ever wondered why some of your fingers curve in their shape or your hands are otherwise dissimilar to others, Destiny Palmistry gives you some insight into these features.
One of the simplest ways to do this is by using the old astrological elements of fire, water, earth and air to compare four typical hand shapes. (Listed below) What shape is your hand?
It is likely that your hand does not match one of these, but using your judgment, you can come up with one that is close or a mix of another. In some cases, the person’s hand shape corresponds to their real sun sign element. It helps to know a little about the astrological elements. Once you have determined some character traits from the four categories, the lines can help to suggest possible outcomes to support other findings.
Career Choices:
Here is a shortlist to check your hand. NOTE- The fingers are classed as long if they appear to be longer than the length of the palm on the back of the palm.
What are the palmistry signs of loyalty and a faithful personality?
It’s fair to say that anyone can have a faithful personality, but naturally, someone more likely than others will have the right core personality. You might wonder if there is such a thing as loyalty to one person’s sign on the palm.
In palmistry (hand analysis), we don’t just look at the lines for potential future outcomes; we look to the character to learn about our inherent capability.
A realistic and practical person is the most believable character in someone faithful in relationships. These qualities in hand analysis are mainly found in someone with a square palm or overall square-looking hand.
These typical signs of loyalty or faithfulness in palmistry depict a dedicated and organised worker, so while they may be loyal and devoted, they may not always be so romantic.
The fingers will be straight and relatively stiff with some square or spatulate, not clubbed fingertips.
They should be set close at the base, with little or no gaps between them, especially the Ring and middle fingers, showing they appreciate the security and like to hold on to things.
With a faithful or loyal personality, the thumb should be long, with a square tip and nail. A short thumb will show a more quiet nature.
The fingernails, in general, will be broad and of average length.
The fingerprint pattern on the middle finger may well be a whorl, a sign of responsibility.
A faithful personality has a skin texture of average to coarse, not overly soft or coarse.
The ball of the thumb will be springy and well-rounded but not overdeveloped.
The lines will be few but clear and of average depth.
The heart line will have very few branches and end on or under the mount of Jupiter.
Shouldn’t we all know that Venus represents the God of Love? The Venus mount, on the hand, has a lot to do with our character regarding love and passion. The Venus mount is the ball of the thumb, and depending on its development, it has a variety of meanings. However, a high mount of Venus in a woman’s hand does not tend to the extravagance as a Mount of the same strength would in a man’s hand.
On a man, the large ball of thumb tends to show a high libido, depending on other characteristics. The good Venusian type is healthy and happy and often enjoys music and the outdoors. If the mount is full and smooth, as usually found on a woman, there is a strong love of flowers, dancing, paintings, colour and so on, not necessarily for sexual passion.
However, the opposite applies to coarse skin texture and a stiff thumb. In a dangerous type, the hand is thick, especially the base of the hand and the short base of the fingers. When the mount is red and hard, it shows that the person is heated in his passions, and he indulges in his desires to a far greater extent than in the case of a woman with the same degree of development.
The base phalange of the ring finger looks bulgy if there is a high libido. Sometimes the pinkie base phalange is bulgy too.
Knowing about a person’s character helps to form and keep better relationships. One of the biggest problems with lovers is that their loving style does not match, and it causes rifts in the union.
Couples start okay, and then all of a sudden, someone is looking for love elsewhere. So it is back to square one; how frustrating. However, if you were to understand the essential characteristics of the person before things get overly serious, would you want to know?
The basic shape of the hand is especially an important part of reading the palms because it helps us to determine the person’s first and most fundamental character and what’s relatively important for most people in relationships. Their sex life, of course.
The fingers are a tremendous part of palmistry because they can show how we express ourselves and how we have developed in the past.
We all have distinctive looks; the same goes for our psychological makeup, which is why reading hands can become very involved and complicated. It is this individual disposition that reflects in our hands from birth.
In my new video lessons on character awareness, you will learn about these important traits visible on the hands:
Aggressiveness – What indicators depict this nature from one finger alone?
Romantic – Several markings tell a romantic.
Sensitive – One very particular sign shows how sensitive the person is.
Cold nature – You will not believe how easy this one is to pick.
Passionate – Many features of the hand show passion in life.
High libido – Same again, too easy but complicated at the same time
Low libido – Apparently, the contrary indicator from the above.
Ambitious – Would you believe ambition counts in love?
Flirty – There is more than one sign for this one.

Your hands can reveal your personality. I read the hands of people worldwide, and one of the main questions I get asked is, will I be rich? Can I be successful? Or When will I get married? In almost all of those people, I recognise the shy personality as one of their shortcomings in their success, whether in their career or personal life.
Symptoms of shyness can cause a person to be apprehensive about taking action towards their aims or ambitions. You might think you’d like to be successful, but do you have the confidence to take the necessary steps to get results? Shyness can be cured and confidence can be learned! (See how below this article).
Many shy people, don’t even realise that they are until someone points it out to them. They might not be shy, but they are neither confident nor bold. If you are average, you are leaning more towards shyness than you think.
How to recognise a shy personality from the hands and palms.
The first thing I look at when reading the hands is whether the whole hand is wide or narrow. A thin hand can depict introversion (or shyness). If the palm is broad (squarish), it suggests a more extroverted nature.
The second and most important feature is the fingers. If someone holds their fingers tightly together, they are shy and secretive. Widely held fingers show the openness of character; they are the confident and assertive types. The thumb should be at a wide angle to the palm. If the thumb is tucked in, it’s a sure sign of someone more insecure or nervous. A small thumb is another sign of a quiet personality.
The pinkie (also called the Mercury finger in palmistry) is where most communications are seen on the hands. You can quickly recognise a shy personality through a quick glance at the little finger and make a judgement on its length. The length and thickness of the pinkie describe how well a person communicates. Communication ability is often lacking in the shy person.
The pinky finger is usually the shortest. To determine whether the pinky is measured longer or shorter than average, look at where it positions with the ring finger. When the tip of the pinky finger is above the crease between the first and second phalange of the ring finger, it’s long. It’s deemed short when it doesn’t reach the top line on the ring finger.
More about the Pinkie
The small pinkie (Mercury finger) suggests that a person is shy or that they find it difficult to express what they want to say, regularly becoming tongue-tied, only to realise after the fact what bright things they could have said. A whorl fingerprint on the pinkie helps to offset these traits. You could also try wearing a ring on the pinkie to enhance the Mercurian attributes.
The shy personality from the pinkie does not affect the ego and mostly the subject has a high opinion of themselves. Their downfall is that they are easily embarrassed, so speaking eloquently in public does not come naturally and is usually avoided altogether. A large or long thumb can offset qualities of shyness.
Those with a small Mercury finger:
They prefer to stay close to home. They often lead a quiet life where they can feel comfortable.
They can be somewhat immature in many aspects, especially emotionally.
Physically, they may look young for their age, or some other aspect of their build is underdeveloped.
Because this finger also represents intimacy in relationships, there may be technical complications, such as communicating feelings.
If it is exceptionally short, it can be a sign of a mental handicap or slow learning ability. The extremely short Mercury finger also denotes a severe lack of confidence in their capacity to express themselves in regard to sexual matters. For this reason, they need a caring and understanding partner in relationships.
LOW SET PINKIE
When this finger is sitting very low on the edge of the palm (not in line with other fingers), it suggests under-development of the traits that Mercury mount (beneath the finger) represents, for instance, business and confidence, especially in communication and language. Creative talent is often present, but they may tend to daydream about it more than create it. The creativity might only be expressed privately, such as in-home decorating or crafts, especially if with pointed fingertips.
If the pinkie is also tiny, emotional needs in relationships may be an issue. It can infer a history of deprivation or inadequacy at a young age, whether due to hardship, setbacks or an absent or overly nurturing parent. Whatever the cause, this feature’s biggest obstacle is difficulty connecting, verbalising and naivety in emotional or sexual matters. If with a weak thumb, they may also inadvertently seek a dominant or unsuitable marriage partner.
“Self-confidence comes from doing what you are afraid to do” ~ Unknown.
How to build your confidence and rid yourself of the shy personality
If you know that you lack confidence, then you probably already know that this is an obstacle in your life. Taking control and becoming more confident should be a priority. Start by looking at your past to see if you may have had a bad experience that made you feel this way. In many cases, it may be that you did not have praise or encouragement from others. It may be that your personality is shy, in general. Whatever the reason, take some steps to look at the future you want to live in.
Are you happy continuing your life the way you are?
Confidence comes from inside you when you learn to change your self-image. You can allow yourself to be different and talk yourself into having faith in yourself. Try this by standing in front of a mirror and staring into your eyes. It can be difficult for some to do but say out loud what your dreams or goals are, and then answer the following questions:
What would you like to achieve in your life?
What do you think is stopping you from achieving this goal?
Why do you say the above situation is a factor in your life?
Are you trying to be the same as someone else?
Are you aiming to be better than anyone?
Is the thing you wish to achieve your personal goal or someone else’s?
Do you have a belief system that you have to be lucky to get anywhere in life?
Do you think that you are not smart or talented enough?
Luck may help some people, but for most successful people, it has been their sureness in themselves, faith in a positive outcome and getting up and doing something about it. Your shy personality is holding you back. You can learn confidence and be every bit as magnificent as anybody else. If you do not believe this, pretend you are confident and see what happens.
Many successful people have had inadequate education. I know some people who could not even read or write, but those lucky people have learned what they are good at or enjoy doing and used that to their full potential. To begin, you only need an idea, enthusiasm, and creative thinking.
Do you have a marvellous idea but need self-assurance?
If you are looking for approval from others about your great idea, be prepared for the fact that you will not always get it. Be careful of whom you try to gain confidence from, some people may not mean to do it, but they may say or do something that depletes your faith instead. They may not see your future the way you can.
If you must ask someone for advice, then make sure you ask someone you respect and believe to be wise. Support from the right people can take you a long way. When you tell others of your plans, it benefits you because you have committed yourself and put yourself at stake.
IMPROVE YOUR SELF-IMAGE FOR HAPPINESS
It would be best if you thought about who you are to improve how you see yourself. Try to do this from your point of view, not what other people may have made you feel.
Is there a hidden talent or personality you are keeping to yourself?
If you are not true to yourself, can you think of why not?
Is your shy personality getting in the way of your success?
Visualise yourself as successful every single day.
Recognise that there are many other ways to get what you want or need.
You may need to discharge some of your negative energy by grounding. You can do this by going outdoors more and doing something physical like digging up a garden.
Let go of your set expectations, imagine getting what you need without being stuck on how you are going to get it.
Once you open your mind to accepting other ways to get around your dilemma, you begin to get a flow of ideas and start to take control of your future.
Become involved in life. Be as healthy and natural as possible. Try not to avoid familiar friends and places; this helps prevent abnormal grief.
Do all things in moderation, eat lightly and naturally and try to get enough sleep.
Don’t worry about the outcome of every little thing.
Meditate and use positive affirmations as if they are already happening.
Listen to your feelings and accept your mood without blaming yourself or resenting others and if you feel like crying, do it.
Listen to your favourite music; it is a fantastic healer.
Take the time to enjoy your pet or care for animals. You can even talk to them; they do not argue with you.
Try to see the view of others; they have problems too.

Markings on the palms, like slashes, stars and grilles
The markings on the palms that don’t seem to fit into any line category are still significant in that they can indicate a warning, such as from stress, or point to a sign of talent or area of focus.
Some marks can depict emotional or mental issues or even health problems. These marks can be recognised from ones like the grille, cross, star or slashes. If your hand is covered in a whole web of fine lines, it is likely that you don’t have any specific marks but are sensitive to your environment. (See this article about too many lines).
Markings on the palm mounts
In most cases, markings on the mounts accentuate the meaning of the mount either in a favourable or an undesirable way. A star is one marking that can be seen as good or bad.
But even these positive markings need to be viewed as a warning since sudden fame or success can affect personal life – An effect like keeping one’s head together and feet on the ground will ensure a more secure and happily ever after scenario. Also, it’s possible to have unfavourable fame, like some criminals.
Some of these markings will take a careful eye when analysing what they mean due to the difficulty in interpreting whether it is a mix of other lines overlapping or one that stands on its own.
STAR MARKINGS ON THE PALMS
A star will have at least three lines crossing at the same point and not be made up by other minor or major lines. It is also found independently on the palm. While most star markings on the mounts are welcome signs, they have a complex connotation. The reason could be due to the challenges usually involved in attaining high-level success or recognition.
Star on the Apollo line or Mount
The star is an unwelcome find on a line and can denote a sudden shock. A star on a line can be most favourable only when it’s on the Apollo line, Jupiter, or Apollo Mount. On these mounts, it reveals extraordinary talent, financial windfalls or even fame as a reward for consistent effort.
Star mark on the mounts
A star on the Mercury Mount can suggest a sudden rise in a business venture or denote dishonest behaviour.
The star is a mark of fame on the Mount of Apollo under the ring finger. However, it can also be the wrong fame, so be careful.
Star on Saturn might be problems with legal matters, restrictions or confines.
The star on the Jupiter mount can signify a sudden rise in fortune, achievement or honour.
On the Mount of the Moon, the star depicts possible celebrity status in a literary career. Some say it marks someone afraid of the sea or travelling on the water.
A star on the Venus Mount shows energy and passion, but it might come at the expense of another matter.

GRILLE MARKINGS ON THE PALMS
A grille marking appears on a hand when there is a group of many lines in a patch. Typically, vertical and horizontal lines overlap in one area, forming what may look like a lattice. But usually, the lines are not visible but an area that appears to be a blur of lines or skin ridges.
The grille mark, in most cases, is unfavourable. It mostly shows stress and overuse of mental faculties, depending on which part of the hand it is. For example, beneath the pinkie, the individual might focus too much on their business and communications, showing too much stress.
DOTS AND SLASHES
A dot on a line can depict many things. The thing to remember about dots is that they are not the same as moles. A mole is just a part of the skin, whereas a dot forms on the lines. The dot can be grey, brown, black, pink or red. The darker the colour, the deeper the meaning. In general, the dot depicts something suddenly happening. It can depict a shock to the mental or emotional aspects.
Slashes are like short crossing lines on top of one another and usually mean an obstacle. However, these obstacles are temporary because they do not break the line. If the slash is at the end of a line, it is like a dead-end road depicting a change in direction. A slash line on top of the marriage line is a deletion line, which often denotes a relationship that didn’t work out.
Prediction from the lines
Using markings on the palms for prediction, gather information from the past trials that have led them to be where they are now. Remember, any lines or markings that represent the future are just assumptions. Palm reading is not an exact science. What’s on the palms can show potential for the subject based on past actions, whether negative or positive. The reason prediction is only an assumption is that our hands have such a connection to our brain that mental activity is recorded on our palms. As our thoughts and desires change, new lines can form, and old ones can fade.
Major and Minor lines – Excerpt from Destiny Palmistry
Most palms have the major lines: a heart line, a line of the head (or Simian line) and the life line. Some hand readers also refer to the Saturn and Apollo lines as major ones. I do not because they are not always in everyone’s hands, along with the fact that they are most likely to change along with the person’s circumstances. The major lines are what people tend to look at first when examining the palms because they are usually the longest and deepest. These lines can also subtly change over time; therefore, what is evident in your hands now does not imply a fixed quality or event.
Some lines change quicker than others
The lines that are most likely to change quickly are the minor lines. But most lines depict what has led to the current circumstances and what is happening now. Remembering that any person can take control of their destiny, palmistry can be used to determine some consequences or guidance for our future. Accordingly, if a line shows an attribute, looking for other indications for confirmation is essential, as one feature can offset another.
For example, a line that shows success for a person may indicate this as a likely conclusion. However, if other signs are against it, such as a lack of willpower, attaining that success may be difficult (but not impossible). Finding adverse marks should not be bad but instead an incentive for making positive changes for better future outcomes.
About Sari
Sari Puhakka, expert hand analyst, writer, and artist. She has studied hands for over 35 years and initially wrote a motivational book called “Claim Your Power and Succeed in Everything You Do”. This book was written for her clients as a self-help book to improve every area of their lives.
Reading palms and cards was merely a hobby for her until she was 28. It was her mission in life to be an expert in her field and to have the power to help people see their potential to succeed in whatever they desire.
Sari is originally from Toijala, Finland. Born in 1967. She emigrated to Sydney, Australia, in 1977 with her parents and three sisters. In 1996, she became a mother of four children in Queensland, Australia. Presently, she is coaching hand analysis through workshops and private tuition. As well as providing readings and continuing the series of Destiny Palmistry books.
My curiosity about the lines on the palm, including the island on the life line, started when I was eleven. I attended my uncle’s fortieth birthday party with my family. He had hired a palm reader to entertain his guests, and as a curious little girl, I had to know about it. The palm reader quickly read my hands, and I have never forgotten what she said to me because they came true.
By the time I left high school, my interest had grown to the extent that I had spent many hours in the library searching for suitable books to read. It was not long before I was practising with my friends and taking notes for my study. My hands were the most significant asset as I continued my learning over the following years to come. It has been a long journey that continues as I live my passion for hand analysis.
The main reason I originally got interested in reading palms was personal. I discovered that some negative markings had appeared on my palms (based on what I had read in books). One mark was the look of my life line (the line which wraps around the ball of the thumb).
The island on the life line was like a split in the line and then it formed back into one.
Some palmists say that an island on life line is a negative mark, even to say it shows a disease like cancer. So, you can imagine my horror and fear when I found this island in my palm. This marking is not, however, a reliable indication of cancer, nor is it a forecast that cancer or any other disease is present. It is, at most, a sign that something causes the energies to split in two directions.
The energy levels might be depleted during the period indicated on the line. Mostly, the island on a line shows a temporary state, lasting only for its duration. In some people, of course, (depending on other factors) it can mean a predisposition to a particular disease, such as alcoholism, PTSD or depression.
Depending on what part of the line the island lies, has a different meaning.
The island mark primarily indicates uncertainty or interruptions to life. These disruptions do not have to be negative. They can and often are positive changes or life events, such as having children or getting married. Starting a new kind of life at any age can interrupt a career, hobbies, friends, family and even the general outlook on life. These changes, in turn, can make their mark on the palm of your hand, especially on the life line.
At the beginning
When the island appears at the very beginning of the life line, it depicts the early years from 1-7 (or so). It is fairly common to have this mark and sometimes it is just a connecting line. The line of life regularly connects to the head line, showing the security of a family and a cautious personality. However, if the mark is clear-cut, it can suggest illness during that period.
The island directly under the index finger depicts the age timeframe of around 15-21. Considering that at this age many young men and women go through hormonal change, it can represent the change into adulthood. I have also seen this type of line when the subject changed their country of origin. Check the other lines for clues of travel or other marks which might point to ill health.
When the island is at the halfway mark of the life line, it points to the approximate age of 35-40. Most people are well into their career or family life by this age, so it can be stress-related. There might be family issues like divorce or uncertainty about the career. If it’s stress-related, often there will be worry lines around the mark. Look for marks on the fate line about money and job. And the heart line and marriage lines about relationships.
Past halfway mark
The island past the halfway mark points to the age around 50-55. For women, it can depict the hormonal changes like menopause. For a man, it can be a time of uncertainty in life as well because he might also be having hormonal changes.
At the very base of the life line, the island is the most unfavourable because it’s more likely to point toward ill health. Remember to check the consistency of the flesh, the texture of the skin and other indicators of resilience. Around the age of 60+ years, many people start to slow down as they near retirement age. It is a mark also common when someone who lives alone or becomes a grandparent, especially if they are very involved in the role.
A WORD OF WARNING
To back up any possible health issues acquired from palmistry, you should always consult a qualified medical practitioner. Please don’t make the mistake of diagnosing from the nails, palms or lines alone. Many of these indicators frequently change according to the individuals’ state of affairs.
If you are reading for someone else, remember, use care and tact, and never alarm a potentially nervous or sensitive subject. It is not our job as a hand analysts to humiliate or discourage anyone. If you happen to fail to verify something, you might not have judged the whole hand correctly.
The lines do change over time
Keep In Mind, that the lines can change over time; therefore, what is evident in your hands now, does not imply a fixed quality or event. When using the lines for prediction, gather information from the past trials that have led the person to be where they are now. Any lines or markings that represent the future are just assumptions. They show what is potential for the subject based on past actions.

Predicting the future using the lines on your palms may be possible.
Is it possible to predict future events from the palms? Some of us, somewhat sceptical, can find it difficult to be convinced without systematic evidence and wonder why we continue believing in the predictive side of palmistry. My answer is that the studies of this subject, explored for centuries as a form of divination, have continued to develop in modern times.
Furthermore, there is clear support for scientific research that the hands connect to the activity of the brain, reflecting the character and well-being of the person. To predict the future using this evidence means it can be done to a degree, but the future can also be altered by having this information.
Many respectable doctors examine the hands, palms, and nails for signs of illness or health warnings. From these cautionary indications, we can potentially predict an outcome and make changes in our life if necessary.
The major lines are what people tend to look at first when examining the palms because they are usually the longest and deepest. For a more accurate reading, you must predict the future through the major lines. The minor lines change too often.
These major lines can also subtly change over time; therefore, what is evident in your hands now, does not imply a fixed quality or event. When using the lines for prediction, the information gathered in the past events that have led the person to be where they are now. Any lines or markings that represent the future are just an assumption, whether negative or positive.
Our thoughts and desires change, new lines can form, and old ones can fade. The lines that are most likely to change quickly are the minor lines. Keep in mind that any person can take control of their destiny. Palmistry can be used to determine some consequences or guidance for our future. Accordingly, if a line shows an attribute, it is important to look for other indications for confirmation, as one feature can offset another.
For example, a line that shows success for a person may indicate this as a likely conclusion. However, if other signs are against it, such as a lack of willpower, attaining that success may be difficult; (but not impossible). However, finding adverse signs should not be negative but an incentive for making positive changes for better future outcomes.
Predict the future from the Career line (fate line, Saturn line).
Most major lines on the palm are present on nearly every hand, but what if they are not? The Career line, or Saturn line (fate line), which travels from the base of the palm towards the middle finger, is not always present in young children and not even in some adults.
If the line stops and starts, it suggests there are changes in life or career. If the fate line stops at the head line, the subject might have made a conscious decision about their work. A line that stops at the heart line suggests an emotional decision.
Unestablished career goals often lead to a missing career line. However, what if you are an adult with a job? This line, in general, indicates the success of a career, whether they are settled or varying and changeable. It is not often absent in adults, but it does not mean anything negative when this happens.
During my career, I have met some businesspeople whose hands the line were absent. They all were happy to say that they were ‘self-made’ men. No fate would decide the course of their career.
So, the missing fate line (see an image of fate lines below) is just an indicator of a free spirit. They do what they want, create their path and are not bound by any regiment. (You can watch a video about the career line here.)
A fate line that starts at the life line (1) depicts a career through study. One which starts inside the life line (2) might be a career in a family business. From the base of the hand, the fate line can show a protege from an early age. This type will have boundaries in their choice and are often motivated to succeed early in life. From the (4) position, the career involves the public or the public eye. Learn more about the (career) fate line here.

When looking for signs of success in your hands, the first thing to analyse is the shape of the hand. Ideally, it is a ‘practical’ hand, the working hand with a square or squarish palm. Somewhat rectangle is common but not too narrow. A long, narrow palm belongs to the daydreamer, and whilst they can still become successful, it might not be in the way that the practical type is. The square palm gives the organisation abilities.
The second thing to look at is the texture and firmness of the hand. A successful person needs energy and determination to get the work done. Therefore, the hand should look firm and the skin not too soft. (Read about skin texture below this article). The fingers, if straight, are the best kind.
The rising line to Apollo Finger
Someone successful in their field, especially if it involves being in the public eye (singing, dancing, acting, lion taming?), has one thing in common: a rising line to Apollo (to the ring finger). The Apollo line is one of the signs of success in palmistry.
Apollo, on the hand is the area of the ring finger and the mount just beneath it. A vertical line that begins low on the palm and rises clearly and distinctly into the mount of Apollo beneath the ring finger represents the arts, including fame and fortune. For this Apollo line (success line) to show the achievement of fame, there must be a reasonably clear-cut and continuous line with a sharp definition. If there are two lines of Apollo, the chances of success are greater. A line of Saturn alongside the line of Apollo is a helpful mark because it shows the individual is trying to reach goals and is motivated to do so.
What if you do not have a Success/Apollo line?
If you have a talent and are good at what you do in the arts, a lack of Apollo line doesn’t mean you cannot be successful and famous. It may be that you have no expectations from your work, or in some cases, you don’t fully appreciate your gift. Of course, as with all indicators on the palms, you need to compare the factors before concluding. In this instance, one right thing to look for is the length of the pinkie finger (Mercury).
A long pinkie finger shows someone who can easily express themselves. The ability to communicate is one of the best attributes; with a good vocabulary and raw eloquence, they are social, influential and very organised. It also means they are naturally good with money and do well in business, politics, science, education, television or radio broadcasting. Writing, entertaining, and music often come naturally. Any subject that requires conveying knowledge or expressing themselves using words.
You have a long thumb if your thumb length reaches at least halfway to the second crease on the index finger. Long thumbs show determination and a will to get things done. A small thumb proves a little more effort is required in most things. A mentor should be a requirement if you have a small thumb and want to be a success. The tip of the thumb will have a slight kink backwards and might be somewhat flat but square-ish front on. An overly bulbous tip will give more aggressive traits. The thumb is ideally medium to low-set on the hand.
The spaces between the fingers (at the base) should not be overly wide. The bigger the gaps, the more likely money slips through the fingers.
Overly wide spaces on all fingers can show frivolousness with money
The gap between the ring and middle fingers should be the smallest
Signs of success, a workaholic.
A workaholic sign in palmistry is a well-developed Mercury finger (the pinkie). It’s not a common thing to have a thick pinkie. But, if it appears thicker than the rest of the fingers or abnormally large, it shows someone who may be rather talkative. They will also have a keen interest in business or money. These people are perfectionists and potentially very shrewd.
Signs of success from the skin texture and consistency
When reading hands, it is essential to take in as many factors as possible to fully understand the make-up of the individual. Taking note of the skin texture and consistency of the flesh should be one of the first to receive your attention. The usual successful person has average to slightly coarse skin.
These factors can alter or add to the meaning of some natural traits; the delicate skin lessens the qualities, giving some refined or sensitive characteristics. Coarse skin shows the opposite, a lack of refinement. The thicker the skin, the better it protects the body from toxins. Therefore, thick-skinned people do not get sick nearly as often as thin-skinned folk. However, when they do, it comes suddenly, usually without warning.
AVERAGE (SLIGHTLY SMOOTH)
Mostly found in women, the healthy skin is not so soft to be silky, nor will it feel or look coarse. The ridges are relatively well visible, and the texture is like paper. The medium skin shows a reasonable amount of energy and sensitivity. They are receptive and casual, with excellent social and communication skills. The type you would find in a lawyer, doctor or office worker.
AVERAGE (SLIGHTLY COARSE)
The ridgelines on the palm and the fingerprints are easy to see on those with rough skin. There are not as many fine lines on the palm. It feels slightly rougher than paper. This type of skin is found in men or women who possess the right amount of vitality (physically and mentally) but aren’t particularly refined or sensitive. They are well-grounded, active, sporty, successful, hardworking and motivated.
Are you procrastinating? Some tips to reduce the boredom of some jobs:
Try playing music or listening to the radio while you work.
If at home, watch television while you work and use the commercial breaks for the most difficult tasks.
Call a friend on the phone while you work on jobs such as the dishes or folding washing.
See if you can get a family member to help do a job and set yourself a time limit. My children are willing to help if I say, ‘Let’s see how quickly we can do a ten-second tidy.’ We all start tidying and counting while we do it or use a stopwatch to time ourselves, and they have more fun doing it if I help.
Do the boring jobs first? Get them out of the way quickly so you have more time to do the things you love.
Are you happily helping everyone else finish their tasks and going out of your way just to be nice?
Do you stop and ask yourself, ‘Do I want to do this?’ If the answer is no, then say no. You need to finish a major task of your own first. It is difficult to say no when you want everyone to think you are a superwoman or a man. However, you know you have taken control of your life when you do, which feels good!
Why learn palmistry? Because the hands are amazing, what would we do without them? Not only are they the most useful body part, with their amazing capabilities. An article from academic.oup.com named ‘The sensory hand” – The Principles of Anatomy as Seen in the Hand (1919), was principally focused on the hand as a motor organ. Fascinated as they were with the capacity of the human hand for precision and dexterity of movement.
In this, they saw the hand as an executive organ of the brain. To Napier, the hand was the mirror of the brain and ‘there can be no such combination as dextrous hands and clumsy brains’. – What a great quote! The hands are amazing and most interesting because they also reveal character. When you learn palmistry, you make your life easier.
What is palmistry?
Palmistry analyses the hands, palm lines, ridges and fingerprints. These days, contemporary palmistry steers away from the predictive side of reading hands. The art in Western culture is mainly used to depict character, career and health. Other cultures do things a little differently. Palm readers in the East prefer the predictive reading of accidents and disasters, and some even tell people when they might die. Knowing those things through their hands is impossible, and readers should avoid even attempting to look for them.
Most modern-day hand readers do not see palmistry as fortune-telling. People still want to know their future from their hands, but the problem is that the hands show what is happening right now, not what might happen. Realistically, the lines cannot predict the future. People make their own decisions in life. They can tell you that whatever you have done up until now can show as a kind of consequence of what may come. For instance, if you are not taking care of yourself or addicted to food or substances, your health may suffer.
Can the hands show illness?
Some indicators on the hands can tell of poor health, especially if there is a long-term condition. However, it’s not guaranteed that you can predict a health problem. If you have features that depict weakness in the body or the character, a hand analyst could tell you what weaknesses to work on to achieve a desired outcome.
When reading hands, consider all aspects before making assumptions because some elements balance or cancel out others. As a rule of thumb, always look at the thumb. It is a critical factor in good reading.
When meeting new people, it is interesting to learn about their character from their hands before even speaking to them. In relationships, you and your potential lover have a greater chance of success when you discover their relationship behaviour and if it matches yours.
It is exciting to have this knowledge and to be able to understand people and improve relationships with them! Whether for business, relationships or personal reasons, your knowledge of hand reading benefits you in countless situations. If you have the qualities of someone motivated and driven to succeed, then you are more likely to have the result of becoming successful.
Recognise the character quickly from the Venus mount (ball of thumb).
The Venus mount symbolises beauty, seduction, romance and love. It also shows the individual’s well-being, indicating how much energy and affection are available; a flexible, well-rounded mount is ideal, showing someone friendly, sympathetic and affectionate. A flat mount would depict the opposite: a lack of energy and warmth.
Another fine example is the length of the fingers. If you want to learn palmistry, you need to be confident in the knowledge of your fingers. Short or long fingers tend to stand out; therefore, it is a good way to instantly recognise the character. The short fingers reveal impatience for minor details but with a quick mind.
The long fingers show patience for more information and a much slower thinking person, but mentally active. If the fingers appear neither long nor short, you generally have the perfect balance of character.
When I first met my partner, I recall I looked at his hands (as would any palm enthusiast like myself). The first thing I noticed was that he had long fingers. I have fairly short fingers, so straight away, I knew that we were going to have a different way of thinking.

The Venus mount is a term in palmistry for the ball of the thumb. The padded areas on the hand are named after planets, and the ones located under the fingers have the same name as the finger, except the thumb. These mounts have meanings based on the planets and Gods. For example, Venus, the Goddess of love and Mars, the Roman God of war. If one of these areas appears flat, it can indicate that the person does not put much energy into that part of their life, like love or fighting (war).
A large, well-developed mount would suggest the opposite, where much focus directs to the area. The person will have more personal power and energy than someone with a flat mount. However, as a standard rule, if the hand has large mounts all over, the person has high energy levels with enthusiasm for life. If the palm mostly consists of flat mounts, there is less zest for life.

The mount of Venus
The Venus mount is the padded area enclosed by the line of life. It indicates the ability to express emotions and affection. Symbolising beauty, seduction, romance and love. It also shows the individual’s well-being, demonstrating how much blood flow and energy is available; a flexible, well-rounded mount is ideal, showing someone friendly, fit, sociable, outgoing, sympathetic and affectionate.
You can find music ability from a sharp angle of thumb (angle of Rhythm) and a loop of music on the skin ridge pattern on the lower section of the mount. A flat or flabby mount shows a lack of energy; there may also be physical issues causing tiredness.
A high mount of Venus in a woman’s hand does not tend to be extravagance as a Mount of the same strength would in a man’s hand. In a man’s hand, a big ball of the thumb, when soft, can give him the qualities a Venusian possesses, like attractiveness, love, sympathy and even generosity.
If it is immense and firm, there is enormous vitality and potentially high libido. A very full and hard mount of Venus, together with a thumb with a bulbous tip and an enlarged inner Mars, indicates a bad temper or aggressiveness.
This area at the base of the hand, opposite the Mount of Venus, is the mount of the Moon. It rules your moods, emotions, romance, travel, and imagination and reflects the female principle (yin) – the mother, the wife, and fertility. It associates with the subconscious, sensitivity and passions.
In astrology, the moon represents your true inner self. It is a symbol of emotions. A strong moon would depict a need for giving and receiving emotional support. When the moon is developed in a man, it still signifies his sensitivity (although he might not show it). It can symbolise his mother, his wife, or the ideal woman.
The size of the Moon area shows imagination and creativity.
A full Moon mount reveals the love of travel, empathy, nurturing and sensitivity.
This area is also where we can see intuition and memory.
The Mount of Moon, when well developed, shows a kind, inventive, creative and imaginative personality. They are risk-takers and can succeed in business due to their originality and inspirational ideas.
Jupiter mount
The mount of Jupiter beneath the index finger tells how much a person likes to dominate, lead and organise. On a well-marked hand, a large Jupiter mount indicates success from a character’s perspective.
The Jupiter mount shows the self-confidence, pride, ego, religion and the strengths and weaknesses of the character. Jupiter rules your luck, growth and wisdom. They are the most independent of all types in their career. If the Jupiter mount shares the space partially beneath the Saturn finger, there is a hands-on ability to achieve goals.
Someone with strong Jupiter aspects is ambitious and likes to be in charge. They are fearless, determined and have an authoritative charisma, so often seen in the hands of politicians. Any position which allows them to hold a commanding position suits the Jupiterian type. However, that doesn’t mean they are strictly business because often they care deeply and have a warm heart.
Religion is another strong quality of Jupiter, as is the love of food. Their fault can be going too far and extremes in everything, so a well-formed head line is to their benefit.
DISPLACED MOUNTS
Sometimes these mounts are not found directly below and in the centre of the finger. This is called a displaced mount. When this occurs, the qualities from one mount are shared with another. The fingers, which relate to the mounts, share similar qualities. Often, a well-developed mount also displays a well-developed finger.
Apollo mount
Under the ring finger is the mount of Apollo or the Sun. When this mount is large, it indicates a desire to be recognised. Positive aspects of Apollo show a versatile, generous, happy and adaptable person. They love to see the beauty in all things. He could be an artist or surround themselves with art. They enjoy luxury and, in the practical world, good taste. Negative aspects point to gambling or paying too much attention to appearances. If the mount of Apollo is displaced towards the mount of Saturn or between the two fingers, the creative side of the personality is significant; often, these people have a loop of seriousness.

SATURN MOUNT
The Saturn finger (middle finger) and the mount beneath it represent your boundaries; it is the balancing force of the psyche aiding rational thought. It is also the symbol of the elderly, grandparents and wise men. A large mount here can reveal pessimism or one with many responsibilities. Positive aspects show an organised and dependable person.
The Mercury finger is the little finger. The little finger and mount represent your ability to communicate in personal relationships or business. It shows how well you connect with others as well as the amount of mental capacity and ideas. Positive aspects show quick wit and intelligence. Negative aspects point to deceitfulness or nervousness.
If Mercury’s mount is large and partially under Apollo, the communication element is used creatively, such as a writer. This displacement usually happens when the Apollo line rises to the finger.
The pinkie (Mercury) finger plays a significant role in the overall character balance; if well-developed, it lessens the struggles to succeed in all areas of life. (See an article about the pinkie meanings here).
PLUTO
The area of Pluto joins the Moon mount and likewise represents the subconscious and imagination. It connects to occultism, death, obsessions and sexual energy. It also reveals nurturing and maternal instincts. In some hands, this area appears to droop below the wrist lines.
MARS MOUNTS
The areas of Mars run through the centre of the palm; they show the strength of character, in general. The outer Mars area under the mount of Mercury and above the Moon indicates the amount of moral courage.
The area below the mount of Jupiter and the inside of the thumb is where we find our physical courage and energy. It symbolises action, boldness, and virility. The inner Mars also represents assertiveness, aggression, and violence. A developed mount would belong to an athlete or someone in the military because it shows a higher level of temper and impulsiveness. These people love danger.
NEPTUNE
Neptune represents inspiration, sentiment, dreams, healing and psychics. However, there is a connection between drug addicts and depression. It shows a highly developed sense of psychology and awareness and of perception of ideas, buildings, and inventions. With a well-developed mount, the individual often loves being near water.
URANUS
Uranus is a rarely visible mount, and its position in the palm is controversial. It has sometimes been said to lie in between the head and heart line next to the mount of Jupiter. However, it is mostly found near the area where the fate line and head line meet or on the edge of the mount of the Moon.
MARKINGS ON THE MOUNTS Markings on these mounts affect the area described, often heightening the qualities of the mount or showing an over-use of a matter. Some distinct markings can be positive signs depending on what the mount represents.
