About the Simian Line

Do you have a double Simian line? Or just one on either hand? The Simian line is a single crease that crosses the entire palm. On a small proportion of hands, the heart line, and head line appear to be a single line across the palm, known as the Simian line or crease. With the qualities of the head line (rational) and the (emotional) heart line seemingly combined or missing, it makes sense to regard this line as a sign of single-mindedness, someone who puts their heart and mind into what they do.

The association of this line was once thought only to be with chromosomal disorders such as Down syndrome. However, now it is mostly normal and recognised as a minor physical anomaly (MPA). In most cases, it is inherited. The name Simian, as a noun, means monkey. As an adjective, it means the characteristic of apes or monkeys. The Simian line is present in primates and named when found on the human hand. Because of the name’s origin, many palm readers now prefer to call it the single transverse crease. However, I do not think about or refer to any monkeys when I use Simian!

How rare is the Double Simian Line?

The Simian line is more common in males and usually runs in families; not all have it on both hands. Worldwide it is found only on around 1.5% on the one hand. It is also more common in Asians and Native Americans.

Pierre Paul Broca, a physician and anthropologist in 1877, presented the traditional view of palm lines in anthropology. He noted that simian lines appear only around 1-2% of Europeans or Caucasians but possibly more than 10% of Asian people. In 1906 R.L. Down labelled the Simian line as a diagnostic indicator.

What does having a Simian line mean?

Having a Simian line mainly determines a personality type. The Simian does not give you bad or good luck. It also doesn’t automatically make someone gifted or special. All sorts of people can be talented in their unique way, and the Simian line has its uniqueness in how the character presents itself.

A survey has shown that many are sensitive, intelligent, determined, passionate, emotional, creative, and in some ways, compulsive. In another recent study, it is believed to show forms of neuroticism, hyperactivity and introversion. If the Simian line is connected to the life line, it shows someone more reserved. If it’s not joined to the life line, the personality is more independent and outgoing.

In the Filipino language, they call the Simian line the ‘Rapas’ and are known to show someone intense and dedicated. It shows a lot of energy when it’s available. The person doesn’t stop easily once they begin to move. But once they do stop, they stay unmoved longer than usual. The Simian line people seem to have a switch, either on or off, with little in between.

Quality of the Simian Line

Like in all analyses of the lines, we look at the quality of the line. A smooth line shows a smoother life (or clearer thoughts and feelings). A messy-looking line can denote feelings or thoughts that are confused or scattered. When there’s a full chained-looking Simian line, it reveals a lack of clarity in thinking and feeling. It shows uncertainty in decision-making (and maybe even laziness).

Double Simian personality

The double simian type signifies a somewhat different, quite intense character, not necessarily a negative attribute as it would seem. I have noted that Simian lines give qualities of either a lot of empathy or none. Some tend towards less emotion and more rational thought. Others might tend to struggle with rational thought and follow their emotions. My survey indicates many double Simians as sensitive, emotional, and empathetic. But even more of them agree (from their perspective) that they are intellectual.

The owner of a Simian line can possess great potential for strong will and focus, many of whom are ambitious and driven, primarily if they have found their niche and had opportunities in their life regarding education and family support.

Simian and relationships

It is difficult for most double Simian liners to focus on a career and relationship simultaneously. If in a full-time career, they put their heart and mind into their work and often find that they’re too busy for relationships. Or it might be that the mind gets priority over the heart. They may find it hard to form deep connections with others because they are emotionally closed, socially awkward or shy.

Another reason they might struggle to find or keep relationships is because they find it challenging to see things from another’s point of view. Their partner may feel smothered by all the devotion and feel overwhelmed by the intensity, so they need to be relatively passive and understanding. On the other hand, if they do not feel an intense connection, the partner might feel unloved or unwanted, even if they are not.

If the Simian individual strongly focuses on his career, his/her partner must support their work. The Simian character can be egotistical and might expect (or continually look for) compliments or praise from their spouse. If you have Simian lines and want a deep connection, try to prioritise your emotional aspects and understand what your partner wants from you. You might have to put aside your ego and feelings of supremacy. Once you see a link with someone, however, you rarely let go, being devoted, caring and loyal, and expecting the same loyalty in return.

More about the Simian personality

The Double Simian type character tends to follow their heart, so they choose a career that gratifies that emotion. Mostly, they are either fully into what they do or fully not into it.  It is nearly always ideal for them to engage in their passion. Doing so is taking full advantage of the single-minded and determined nature. Typically, the owners of a Simian line follow their minds; in other words, they do not easily follow orders from others, hence coming across as stubborn.

However, to properly hypothesise about this crease and how it affects the personality, look at other hand features, such as hand shape, finger length, thumbs, and lines, including fingerprint and palm patterns. For example, a narrow hand will make a much quieter personality, someone who leans towards introversion. A person with long fingers will have a thirst for knowledge and likely be preoccupied with theoretical and/or spiritual matters.

Double Simian Line Personality Traits

You know you have come across a double Simian personality when you see obsessive behaviour, one of the most common traits of Simians. If used positively, this compulsion can be of great benefit to them. For instance, at work, always make sure everything is done on time, the right weight, perfect portions or whatever the job requires. The preoccupation with having everything a certain way is great if it aligns with others. It is most difficult for those who do not have Simian lines to understand some of the behaviours of a Simian owner because some things that the double Simian sees as common sense is not always so for others.

Some are very energetic, and the energy varies for each person. This energy comes in bouts; some find it difficult to relax to some extent. However, the energy is not as high on a soft water hand. While these people are intense, at the same time, they can be very empathic. Usually very open-minded, yet cynical; nonetheless, what you see is what you get. They are either fully on or fully off (extremely kind, loving and attentive) or overly argumentative and cold. Is Simian a curse? Is Simian good or bad? The Simian is not a sign that the person is cursed (a cursed Simian line) doesn’t exist.

Single Simian Line

If your dominant hand has the Simian line, then your distinct personality is more obvious to those who do not have it. The intensity and obstinacy of the personality are not so hidden. On the inside, the individual might feel normal emotions and reasoning. However, everything might be much more complicated in their day-to-day life. Of course, as with all palm reading, the shape of the hand, fingers and other features can offset these qualities.

A right-hand Simian on a fire-type hand (thick, long palm, short fingers), certainly enhances the qualities due to the already passionate and impulsive nature. This type of character might feel the need to go into whatever they are interested in deeply. They are not satisfied with skimming the surface and letting things go. They will overanalyse almost everything; they will give all they have, which is perfect in certain situations like research or the sciences. This type of determination and drive helps to get things done completely, not in halves. It might frustrate them when others do not.

In the words of a right-hand Simian person, “I like to think about everything in detail, such as when commenting or filling out forms, because I want everything perfect! My friends and people I know say that I have an attitude. However, I think it is my strength, I do not easily give up, and I am always curious.”

A narrow water hand with the qualities of introversion lessens these traits. While there might still be passionate nature, they will not be as assertive with it. The water hand gives more sensitivity and compassion, but it might also not handle stress.

The extra line above the Simian line

It is common to have an extra line above the Simian, like a floating heart line or a long Girdle of Venus. The floating heart line is usually much thinner than the Simian line and gives more sensitivity to the character. These people might be empathetic and kind-natured.

Double Simian line Variations

The Simian line can sometimes confuse the heart line that joins the head line. In some cases, the lines look like a Simian, and so can be a Simian Variant. There might be a branch from the line downward, acting as a head line. Or, there might be a branch rising upward, similar to the heart line. These Simian line variations are common and indicate the person has an outlet for their emotional or logical side which lessens the obsessive or singlemindedness.

The Suwon crease and Sydney line are variations of the Simian line; at least, they give similar meanings. The difference is that a heart line is present with the Sydney line. In the case of the Suwon crease, a head line is present. Both types can suggest someone highly intelligent, sometimes overly sensitive. Latest Survey Results

The latest results of my survey of the double Simian found that of the people who did the questionnaire, 48% had a double Simian, the rest had just one, either on the left or right hand.

Out of all the people, whether double Simian or only one, the results so far are: Sensitive – 90.9%.  Also, out of the same group, 70% believe they are intellectual. 28.5% of them also believe they are creative and athletic. HEALTH SIGNS FROM FINGERNAIL COLOUR

Palmistry is not just looking at the lines on the palm, it is about analysing the whole hand, including the fingernails. When looking for health signs from fingernail colour, we apply the same principles as for the hands, which is to find something unusual. We also check the quality of the nail.

A delicate textured hand should have matching smooth looking nails. If the nails are coarse on a smooth hand, the healthy balance is out of proportion. The coarse nail is usually short dry and dense, more commonly seen on a big hand with rough skin.

A nail usually takes six months to grow from the root to tip so some markings can be timed based on where it is on the nail. As an example, a horizontal ridge halfway along the nail would suggest a change around three months ago.

A typical healthy nail is pliable; it has a smooth texture; average thickness and the colour of the nail is typically light pink. The moons should be milky white, and usually only visible on the thumb. (Text continues below)

WORD OF WARNING – Please don’t make the mistake of diagnosing health signs from fingernail colour, palms or lines alone, because many of these indicators are frequently changing according to the individuals.

BLUE/PURPLE NAILS

Bluish tinge within the nail bed can be due to circulatory or respiratory problems. Sometimes this is temporary due to cold weather or cold hands. It is normal for a woman to have bluish nails during the early teens and again at menopause when there are changes in the body hormones.

WHITE NAILS

A white-looking nail bed can suggest iron deficiency, low vitality or liver dysfunction. A pale, white or greyish tinge under the nails can indicate selfish leanings or lack of warmth. Depending on the quality of the nail, if it appears to be lifting off the quick, clouded, brittle and dry, it could indicate a fungal disease.

When the nail itself is white and clouded on the top section and yellow at its base, it can signify the onset of possible kidney disease.

YELLOW /BROWN

Yellow colour in the nail beds or a brownish discolouration, splotches or stains in the skin directly under the nail, can indicate jaundice, liver or gallbladder conditions. These marks can also occur when there is a high level of bilirubin in the blood due to the body producing too much or not get rid of it fast enough. Other conditions can also cause yellowing, such as fungal infection or regular contact with heavy-duty chemicals on the nails.

RED NAILS

Red fingernails mainly show a predisposition to poor circulation. Very red nails can be due to high blood pressure, bad temper or cardiovascular disease.

WHITE SPOTS OR LINES

White flecks or spots can show a vulnerable nervous system or weak constitution. They are usually the first sign of delicate nerves and can appear during times of stress or when the body lacks a mineral such as calcium, zinc or magnesium. White lines across the nail can indicate acute fever or coronary disease.

BLACK/RED LINES

Several long, thin black specks or lines underneath the nail, is associated with a bacterial infection of the heart valves. If the line or speck is very close to the tip, it may be just a splinter or injury. Red lines or specks can be due to long-term high blood pressure, or if at the tip, also injury.

CONCAVE NAILS

The concave nail is opposite of the humped nail and appears dished and sunken in, like a spoon. It can be a sign of a lack of energy, a nervous disorder or physical stress. There may be nutritional deficiencies or exposure to a lot of water or chemicals which soften the nail. The concave nail can be a warning of a more severe oncoming illness.

HUMPED/CURVED NAILS

The humped nail, commonly associated with weak lungs, respiratory disorders such as emphysema, bronchitis or pneumonia. Long-term smokers often have nails that grow over the tip of the finger, appearing curved or humped (suggesting inadequate oxygenation). A severely humped nail, where the tip of the finger also appears swollen, indicates a more severe condition. A claw-like nail is frequent in the hands of older people who may have a problematic or dominant attitude. If there are no respiratory or age-related issues, these people are tenacious, but with a pompous attitude.

RIDGES ON THE FINGERNAILS

Horizontal ridges (grooves) on all the nails can suggest a change or interruptions in the individual’s health possibly due to severe dieting, long-term stress, acute infections, injury or trauma. Vertical grooves can occur with old age, but on a young person, they can show a delicate constitution, nervousness, stress, hormonal changes or poor nutrition. If all the nails have ridges, it could also be due to rheumatoid arthritis or overuse of nail polish removers.

BRITTLE OR WEAK NAILS

The cause of flaky nails can be a mineral imbalance, poor diet or an underactive thyroid gland. Using bare hands for work such as gardening and overuse of chemicals on the nails can also cause brittle and weak nails. Long-term stress shows as dry skin on the palms, which would also affect the nail.

Love Life Signs in Palmistry

You might be wondering what some love life signs in palmistry are? For example, how to see a person’s love style. Are they passionate or unfeeling? Do they have the energy for love, or are they sexually timid? These are questions that you might have when first entering a relationship.

The shape of the hand is the first place that we look for clues. The skin also comes into play when thinking about sensitivity and physical pleasures. The length of the fingers helps explain their love style. From the lines on the palm, we look mainly at the heart and head line.

Love life signs from a narrow shaped hand

A slim hand that appears long shows someone who might fall in love too quickly. If the hands feel soft and kind of damp with many fine lines all over the palm, it shows someone sensitive, intuitive and dreamy. Individuals with a slender and long palm are primarily introverted, preferring peace and moving at a slower pace in life. Don’t expect this sensitive soul to watch erotica with you! Roundish or conic shaped hands (large palm short fingers) tend to be naturally romantic and impulsive. This shape is a fire type hand, and because of their energy and enthusiasm, they will usually try anything at least once. They are mostly the extroverted type with a personality that is charismatic, impulsive, adventurous, fun-loving and intense, physically and mentally. It is the fire types that are most likely to stray.

Square looking hands are the practical types. This shape shows someone down to earth, dependable and straightforward. If you are thinking about anything more than vanilla, you’re probably looking in the wrong place. Another thing is that they might get stuck in a routine that’s difficult to change. This earth shaped hand depicts a more private person. If you’re looking for loyalty, you’ve found it.

  2. A straight and short heart line is someone who loves their freedom. There is more physical attraction than emotional.
  3. A long heart line to Jupiter mount can be picky. They are the idealist.
  4. The line which reaches all the way to the index finger depicts the big-hearted individual. They are happiest when everyone around them is happy. They will express themselves clearly and you will know what they want from you.
  5. A Simian line can be very passionate or the opposite, very cold, depending on other factors. They might fluctuate from one to the other.

The fingers

The shape of the fingers can give us clues to a person’s sensuality. The thicker the fingers, the more energy there is for life (unless very soft and floppy). The base phalanges and the ball of the thumb are where we look for the amount of sex drive. If the ring and little finger base phalanges are incredibly thick and bulbous, together with a high mount of Venus, it is a sign of a seducer with a high libido.

Long fingers tend to show someone who takes their time in getting to know someone before they jump into bed with them. The shorter fingers show impatience and belong to someone who wants to get things done quickly and now.

Little Finger length

When the little finger is sitting very low on the edge of the palm, it suggests under-development of the traits that the mount beneath it represent, for instance, confidence and communication. These people might be more private and emotional needs in relationships may be an issue.

The long pinkie can show a talent for creativity and communication, which can help in the area of intimacy. A small pinkie then shows the opposite, which is someone who is shy and quiet in their love style. The very small looking pinkie shows difficulty connecting, verbalising and naivety in emotional or sexual matters. If with a small thumb, they may also inadvertently seek a dominant marriage partner.

Split Life Line Real Meaning in Palmistry

The Split Life line and other types of line.

The life line types on the palm vary. Most lines, however, arc around the thumb ball and end at the wrist. The length and quality of this line tell certain character traits and constitution. It is a line that is the most interesting one on the palm in palmistry. People like to think that the line refers to one’s actual life. In a way, it does. The line should, ideally, be extended, deeply etched and unmarked. However, it is unlikely that many people in this modern age have a line like that. Sometimes there is a split life line.

The life line types, including the split life line:

  • A long, deeply etched line that reaches the wrist (if unmarked) shows vitality, routine, stability, and motivation.
  • A short line, if also weak or thin in its appearance, reveals a lack of stability or energy levels. Often it is a mark of unstable early family life or a change in the middle of life.
  • A life line that appears faint depicts a delicate or sensitive constitution, common in those who are not physically active.
  • A line that curves outward towards the Mount of Moon describes someone who loves to travel or is very outgoing.
  • A line that runs closer to the thumb is someone who lacks interest in physical activities and may be cold or selfish. They prefer to stay close to home.

Any break in a line indicates change. The normal flow and direction of life take on a new course. Countless reasons can bring this change, so it’s nothing to worry about. You can use this timing method to estimate when the change will occur.

  • When a life line appears to have a split or break, look for sister lines on one or both sides of the line, these lines support an otherwise uncertain period.
  • A line on the inside of the life line would show family support, and on the outside from a non-related source. If the break overlaps another part of the life line, it often indicates a planned change.
  • If the split has no parallel lines or overlap, it shows an uncertain period, and care should be taken in every way. The health may be affected due to illness, accident or mental trauma. Look for other indicators on other lines. A square over the split will give protection.

Prediction from the lines

When using the lines for prediction, gather information from past trials that have led the person to be where they are now. Any lines or markings that represent the future are just assumptions. They show what is potential for the subject based on past actions, whether negative or positive. The prediction is only an assumption because our hands connect to our brains, and mental activity is recorded on our palms. As our thoughts and desires change, new lines can form, and old ones can fade.

The lines can change on the palm.

Some lines change more quickly than others. The lines that are most likely to change quickly are the minor lines. But most lines depict what is happening now and what has led to the current circumstances. Remembering that any person can take control of their destiny, palmistry can be used to determine some consequences or guidance for our future. Accordingly, if a line shows an attribute, looking for other indications for confirmation is essential, as one feature can offset another.

For example, a line that shows success for a person may indicate this as a likely conclusion. However, if other signs are against it, such as a lack of willpower, attaining that success may be difficult; (but not impossible). Finding adverse marks should not be bad, but instead, an incentive for making positive changes for better future outcomes.

If you are reading for someone else

Remember, if you are doing a reading, use care and tact, and never alarm a potentially nervous or sensitive subject. It is not our job as hand analysts to humiliate or discourage anyone. If you happen to fail to verify something, it is because you might not have judged the whole hand correctly.

Which hand to read?

The hand that a person writes with is usually their dominant hand, and the lines and hand shape can show which is the non-dominant. The dominant hand is less flexible, demonstrated by a thumb with a smaller angle. The non-dominant hand tends to be more relaxed and has more lines because it shows our thoughts and what is happening.

The dominant hand

The dominant hand describes what is happening in their material or the outer world (the conscious). It shows what we are experiencing and whether we have developed and grown from our past. The right and left hands are usually different, so I always look at both.

The non-dominant hand

The non-dominant hand defines what is mostly happening on an inner level (subconscious) or what is potential. It shows what we feel we could be doing or should be doing. I read the history from the non-dominant hand, but both sides can depict past events due to timing on the lines.

What is your career / fate line?

The career/fate line is the rising vertical line in the middle of the palm (if you have one). (Also called the money line). It can start almost at any point, even from other lines. It can have more than one ending point, with offshoots like branches coming off the line and reaching other areas like the mount under the ring finger or index finger mounts. When this occurs, it can have very positive connotations regarding the success of a career or occupation. Other times, the line ends on another line or is not present.

Where the line ends / fate line career change

The career/fate line ending at the head line can show a lack of satisfaction and change in the career or goals at around the age of thirty to forty. The person may have chosen at that point to live each day as it comes without restrictions. It could also be due to a calculated decision to change their life path. These people try to stay where they are to make it work, but rarely it does because they feel dead-ended and want to break away from their old situation.

  1. Ending on the head line, the person has made a conscious decision about their career. Other lines need to be checked for clues: Is there a success line present? Are there marks on the line prior to its ending?
  2. A line that ends beneath the heart line is standard when the career stops upon retirement and no further interests, or career goals are taken up. Success is no longer what drives them, instead, taking life easy, which could signify early retirement.
  3. Ending directly under the middle finger shows that the person is active and deeply involved in their career or interests for most of their life. Without a success line present, this type of fate line can come with a few struggles or obstacles along the way. However, overall, they will have a successful career. Retirement, it seems, is not an option.
  4. Ending under the index finger. This shows that the person is very ambitious and do anything to make their goals a reality. The determination and motivation ensure eventual success or even fame in their chosen field.

More about the fate line

The fate/career line is also referred to as the Saturn line. It rises towards the middle finger and is associated with the same qualities as the Saturn mount. The fate line is the best line to see a change in the life of its bearer. Therefore, if it doesn’t show changes, such as breaks and branches, it shows a steady life path.

  1. Starting at the life line is a traditional start to a career, which originated from the individual’s background, education or personal merit. It represents a competent person who is determined to apply their energy and talent to succeed in life.
  2. Starting from inside the life line would show someone who has had less choice and was probably ruled by the family in the type of work expected of them or obligated to follow the same profession as their parents.
  3. A perfect and straight fate line that runs directly from the base of the palm to below the middle finger is rare. However, it can denote a decided career or direction in life. The person with this type knows who they are; they are self-motivated, serious and in control of their chosen path in life from an early age. Look for lines to Apollo which can denote success, like the money line which rises from the heart line to the pinkie.
  4. A fate line starting at the Mount of Moon shows people (or public) based profession of their choosing. They achieve success due to their appealing and essential qualities, someone who can be in the public eye. Often found on entertainers and actors.

CURVED FATE LINE

A gently curving fate line indicates a gradual change in career or life. The sharper the curve, the more drastic is the change. If it veers from side to side, it predicts that the ambitions are not well directed and there is a waste of energy in efforts throughout their life.

MORE THAN ONE FATE LINE?

It is common to have more than one fate line. A double line, depending on how tight they run to each other, can refer to two similar occupations, hobbies or study alongside a career at the same time. If the lines are close, it can depict a successful business partnership and may even represent a husband or wife who is considered very supportive. Whatever the case, the second line suggests a duality of some aspect and acts as a support line, strengthening the main line. Sometimes, the second formation shows up as a small fork leading into two clear directions.

BROKEN FATE LINE

A fractured fate line, but one that overlaps alongside the second part of the line, presents a planned change in career or lifestyle. If the breaks do not overlap, and there is a space before it continues, it is an unexpected change, a time when progress regarding career or goals has come to a standstill. The motivation and purpose are no longer justifiable. Look for clues on the other lines for reasons such as health or family.

CROSS BARS ON FATE LINE

A fate line with horizontal lines (crossbars) show obstacles that may slow down the progress of goals and finances. These bars can be interruptions caused by life changes such as starting a family, money issues, poor choices or stress in general. If the line continues after the mark, it is a temporary hitch.

ISLAND ON THE FATE LINE

Will I become rich? Not during the period where there is an island mark. An island on the line weakens the flow and often denotes worry over financial difficulties from taking on too much credit or borrowing money; bankruptcy is a possibility depending on other indicators. Look for interference lines rising from the Mount of Venus and across the life line. Many small islands that form a chain are when numerous issues affect the smooth flow of career and life in general.

The Unusual Simian Lines on the Palm

In a small proportion of hands, the heart line and head line appear to be joined into a single line, forming a long line across the palm known as Simian lines or crease. The association of this line was once thought to be only with chromosomal disorders such as Down syndrome. However, it is mostly a regular feature. In some recent studies, it is believed to show forms of neuroticism, hyperactivity and introversion.

A Line With Ancient Roots

While modern palmistry often frames the Simian Line as unusual or intense, ancient traditions didn’t always see it that way. In some early Chinese and Japanese hand‑reading systems, a single transverse crease was associated with people who had a “one‑track spirit” — individuals whose life force flowed in a single, unwavering direction. Rather than being seen as problematic, it was linked to destiny, discipline, and a kind of inner fire.

Cultural Variations

The Simian Line appears in roughly 1–3% of the general population, but certain groups have historically shown a higher prevalence. Some early anthropological studies noted that specific nomadic or tribal communities had a noticeably higher rate of single palmar creases. These weren’t framed as abnormalities — instead, they were interpreted as markers of strong-willed personalities or people who carried important roles within the group.

A Symbol of “Merged Energies”

In classical Western palmistry, the heart line represents emotional intelligence, and the head line represents rational intelligence. When they merge into a Simian Line, it’s not simply “emotion and logic combined” — it’s the absence of separation between the two. Historically, some readers believed this indicated a person who experiences life in a more primal, direct way. They don’t compartmentalise. They feel their thoughts and think their feelings.

  • Intense focus
  • All-or-nothing behaviour

One lesser-known belief among Victorian palmists was that the Simian Line amplifies the traits already present in a person. They saw it as a “magnifier line.”
For example:

  • A naturally compassionate person becomes deeply devoted.
  • A naturally ambitious person becomes relentlessly driven.
  • A naturally anxious person may become hyper‑vigilant.

    The Simian Line doesn’t create personality — it intensifies it.

The Spiritual Interpretation

Some esoteric traditions viewed the Simian Line as a sign of a soul that reincarnates with a very specific karmic task. The merging of the lines symbolised the integration of past-life lessons into a single concentrated lifetime.

Some mystical traditions teach that souls with a Simian Line have lived many lifetimes exploring emotional mastery (heart line) and intellectual mastery (head line) separately. When these lines fuse, it symbolises a soul that no longer needs to divide these lessons. Instead, they return with a focused karmic mission — something that requires intensity, commitment, and a unified inner compass.

Most people separate their emotional world from their logical world. Simian Line individuals don’t. Spiritually, this is seen as a sign of a soul that refuses fragmentation. They experience life as a single, unified stream of consciousness. This can make them:

  • Intensely intuitive
  • Fiercely loyal
  • Unusually perceptive
  • Deeply committed to their path

    It also explains why they often feel things more strongly and think more intently — the soul operates as a single integrated force.

The Karmic Challenge

Every spiritual gift comes with a challenge.
For the Simian Line, the challenge is learning to channel that intensity rather than be consumed by it. Their karmic task often involves:

  • Mastering focus
  • Balancing passion with patience
  • Learning to trust their inner compass
  • Using their intensity for creation rather than self‑pressure. When they do, they become unstoppable.

I see these lines on the palm as ‘energy’. The head line relates to our mentality, how we think, and how practical we are. The heart line depicts our emotional side and how sentimental we are. So you can imagine if the two types of energy, mental and emotional, are in the same line, there’s going to be some inner tension.

The owner of Simian lines can possess strong will and focus, and many are ambitious. But, the focus won’t last if they are not following their passion. It helps if they have found their niche and had opportunities in their life regarding education and family support. On the one hand, there might be a creative nature.

How can you tell if you have a long heart line or a Simian line?

The Simian line will not have any breaks. It travels in a straight line across the palm, with no curved lines. It is a horizontal line only. A long heart line may reach across the entire palm; however, it will end just short of connecting to the side. A heart line is also likely to have a curve in it. The Simian lines on both palms

The Simian line on both hands can suggest the subject has a more intense and passionate nature. However, to hypothesise about this crease, look at other features of the hand, such as hand shape, finger length, thumbs, and lines, including fingerprint and palm patterns.

Typically, the owners of a Simian line are stubborn, unpredictable and easily misunderstood by others. They do, however, tend to have abundant energy, and some find it difficult to relax. While these people are intense, they can also be very empathetic and quite sensitive in their own way. Usually very open-minded, yet cynical; nonetheless, mostly what you see is what you get.

The Double Simian type character follows their heart and, in doing so, chooses a career that gratifies that emotion. Mostly, they are either fully into what they do or fully not into it.  It is nearly always ideal for them to be engaged in their passion. In doing so, it is taking full advantage of the single-minded and determined nature.

If your child has them

If you have a child with Simian lines, you might have already noticed some different character traits. He or she might seem more dynamic and energetic than others. They might also vacillate between being pleasantly charming and helpful and completely ignoring you.

Your child might display some fixated behaviour, which can be directed in positive ways by encouraging their interests. An example of this might be the boy who loves sport, but if he doesn’t get the opportunity to play, he might find something else less desirable to preoccupy his mind.

Some might have already been diagnosed with Asperger’s or ADHD. If that’s the case, your child might exhibit qualities such as disobedience to rules. Your child might display a limited attention span, low self-esteem, or have difficulty at school.

Treatment for hyperactivity can include talk therapy, a healthy diet, quality sleep and strict routines. It has been noted that exercise is one of the easiest and most effective ways to reduce hyperactivity symptoms.

When I first became curious about reading palms, I had no idea that fingerprints and palm prints (ridges) could have so much significance in studying our personalities. However, analysing these patterns have become a prevalent part of hand reading in modern-day palmistry.

For over five centuries of observation and study of genetic medicine, psychology and brain science, scientists have proof that examining the character from the fingerprints is possible. I believe that understanding your nature is the ultimate way to enrich your life, and the prints and palm ridge patterns are, without a doubt, a great place to begin.

Dermatoglyphics is the scientific term used to describe skin ridges, more commonly known as finger and palm prints. These prints are not only used in forensic analysis but also in medical research to try to recognise specific abnormalities or disorders. Loops are the usual patterns we see on the palms, but most people will only have one or two.

The Not So Funny ‘Loop of Seriousness’

The loop-shaped palm prints, called the loop of seriousness, also the loop of common sense, is a typical pattern on the palm, and the name it has describes the person well. These people are ambitious, career orientated and responsible. They nearly always have some purpose in mind. Even if found on one who prefers not to pursue a career, he or she would get much enjoyment from hard work.

So, work is their fun, or they enjoy working, especially if it’s something like a renovation, a creative project, maintenance etc. Not necessarily paid work or a job. Many people with this loop like to run their own business.

Also, it shows someone who doesn’t like practical jokes. However, it doesn’t mean they don’t have a sense of humour. It’s just that they see practical jokes as cruel and annoying.

LOOP OF HUMOUR

A loop of humour shows someone who values pleasure and good times over the financial rewards of work. They do not take things too seriously, they have a good sense of humour and are naturally witty. Practical jokes are a favourite with these types of people. Sometimes it stretches or curves under the Apollo finger; this would show a somewhat strange or twisted sense of humour.

LOOP OF CHARISMA (RAJAH LOOP)

The loop of charisma or the Rajah loop lies between the index and middle finger. It is traditionally on those who have royal blood in their ancestry. However, I have never been able to confirm it. I have seen that the person will have a strong character. They are lively, pleasant and entertaining. People admire them for their personalities. However, they tend to be domineering, therefore, come across as arrogant to more delicate souls. It is for this reason perhaps why it is often on those who are leaders in their field or a position of authority. These types also like to have their own business instead of a job.

LOOP OF MEMORY AND LOOP OF SENSITIVITY

The loop of memory and sensitivity are similar. One is often mistaken for the other because of its location on the palm. The loop of sensitivity is below the head line and upper mount of the Moon. The memory loop is at the end of the head line in the region between the plain of Mars and outer Mars.

The loop of memory usually appears to be more rounded looking, like a whorl at the end of the head line. If you can imagine a place at the end of your thoughts where an idea gets trapped and is held there, almost like an obsession, this describes the focus of the person with one of these patterns. The loop of sensitivity is similar but with an open end which allows room for the escape of the imagination.

LOOP OF COURAGE

The loop of courage on earth or fire type hand can depict an energetic character who likes to do physical dares such as climbing the highest mountain or doing the greatest stunt. On the water or air type hand, it would be a challenge that could stretch the imagination or mental capacity. However, the thing which these opposites do have in common is that you can be sure they will be there in an emergency to save a life or prevent a dangerous situation. They will bravely soldier on in conditions where other spirits may have given up, whether it is physical, emotional or mental.

LOOP OF NATURE

If you prefer to be outdoors, in the country or feel you have an affinity with nature, then you might have the loop of nature on your palm. These people will choose to go camping over a city nightclub, they will have a sensitivity to the feelings of animals and often love to work in the garden, but whatever it is they fancy you can be sure it will be in the open air.

LOOP OF ENVIRONMENT

Sometimes called the loop of environment response. It describes someone who responds very quickly to his situation, not only of sounds but also of moods. They are also very sensitive although they may not realise it. The response is like a perception of the immediate surroundings, where they can quickly sense if something is dangerous or wrong. There is a negative side to this though if on an earth or fire type hand, with short fingers, the sensitivity can spill over to having a quick temper.

MUSIC BEE

The music bee is one of the more rare palm prints. It is not in the form of a loop or a whorl, but instead a group of ridges that go in the opposite direction of its surrounding ridge pattern on the mount of Venus. It denotes a keen natural talent for music, especially stringed instruments. Many people have talent in music even if they do not have this marking, so don’t be disappointed if you do not have one.

LOOP OF RHYTHM

The loop of rhythm is more likely to be found on a talented drummer, dancer or just one with a sincere appreciation of a good tune.

LOOP OF INSPIRATION

A rare marking on the Mount of Moon towards the middle of the palm, bringing the ability to be inspired by a sixth sense. The loop of inspiration is a mark of one who experiments with radical or unorthodox methods in music and the arts.

LOOP OF EMPATHY

One of the palm prints is a loop of empathy. It is a loop that rises from the area of the rascettes shows someone who takes an interest in others and is naturally compassionate.

WHORL OF IMAGINATION

The whorl on the Mount of Moon shows an ability to visualise very clearly. The imagination is excellent. However, they tend to daydream and get stuck in their world, unable to express who they are.

COMPOSITE WHORL ON THE MT. OF MOON

The composite whorl on the mount of Moon can have two aspects to its meaning. Here the psyche may experience emotional ups and downs or misperception about what they feel hence there may be uncertainty or difficulty in relationships.

Some say that this complex pattern implies that if on a male hand, he will have gentle, sensitive and feminine traits and on a female, she will have masculine characteristics.

Girdle of Venus and Various Meanings in Palmistry

In its perfect form, the Girdle of Venus is mainly a curved line under the ring and middle fingers. Sometimes a horizontal line (or group of lines) lies above the heart line. In the latter, it looks like a floating heart line. This girdle of Venus can be broken up, or it can be a complete line.

The meaning of the line (or lines) varies depending on its length, quality, and the type of hand it has. In most cases, it is only present in sections. If only a couple of section lines are present, it shows better control over emotional reactions.

More than one Girdle of Venus line

Often there are multiple lines or fragments of the line. The girdle is like an additional heart line that adds extra sensitivity and intensity to the emotional side of the personality. These people, extra above the heart line, tend to be flirtatious and passionate. It shows a need for emotional security. In some cases where the heart line is absent, such as the Simian line, it takes the heart line’s place and helps in the emotional aspect.

Advantages of a Girdle of Venus

From a positive perspective, the girdle of Venus signifies a compassionate and open-hearted character. It is good if on someone in the caring profession because they understand the pain of others. If on a writer’s or artist’s hand, the subject could depict emotion well in their work due to the vivid imagination.

Disadvantages of having the Girdle of Venus

The girdle of Venus can denote an intense state of nervousness and quick temper (if aspects on the hand show these qualities elsewhere). The social and responsible aspects are blocked when the line is a full half-circle. These people need to try harder than others to be accepted.

A Fully Formed Girdle of Venus

Generally, the Girdle of Venus in its full form strengthens whatever characteristics are present in the temperament of the individual. It is a mark of heightened nerves, feelings, and emotions, whether they are positive or negative.

Spiritualism, Escapism and Drugs

Someone with these girdle lines might often need to escape the mundane life and do something that takes them away from it. To these people, visions and dreams are a part of their life. It might be something like meditation, art, or spiritualism, or sometimes it can be sexual. Taking drugs, alcohol, or medications is common in those with these lines. In the latter’s case, there may also be an escape line.

The long (extended) Girdle of Venus

An extended version of this line originates from under the little finger (Mercury) and stretches across to the area between the middle and index finger. It shows someone with a broader range of emotions. However, these emotions may be more challenging to control, especially if there is no creative expression outlet.

Multiple Girdle of Venus lines

If there are many fine lines on top of one another across almost the entire top section, it shows someone with a great degree of sympathy and emotional sensitivity. They might constantly need excitement and variety (perhaps through drugs). Or the subject might be in continual need of some emotional stimulation.

Girdle of Venus on a Water Hand

If with a full Girdle of Venus on a soft water type hand, its owner can be tough on the outside, but they may experience the opposite on the inside. Their feelings are easily hurt, and they are quite receptive to what is going on around them. They can quickly become addicted to stimulants, and sad movies make them cry due to their empathic nature.

Is the Girdle of Venus Good or Bad?

When unbroken and deeply etched, together with a weak life and head line, it may be a sign of selfishness or irrational or neurotic behaviour, especially if with a weak or broken head line. If the girdle is stronger than the heart line, the person might not be able to connect well in an emotional way. They can be moody and complex in a way that they fantasise a lot.

Is the Girdle a Line of prostitution?

In the old palmistry, the name Girdle of Venus was the line of prostitution, or the prostitution line, because some people with it tend to be quite sexually active. In a modern view, the word flirtatious would be appropriate, especially if the heart line has many branches.

The Mirage line is another term for these lines

Johnny Fincham uses the term ‘mirage line’ and describes this line on a coarse-skinned hand with large base phalanges as someone who escapes into sensual excess. He also mentions that men and women with the mirage line (Girdle of Venus) tend to seek out strong partners in life who are more level-headed than themselves. He mentions that in fragmented form, they produce an overly sensitive and introverted emotional type.

The Broken Girdle of Venus

If the lines are delicate and broken, it depicts a more highly-strung Girdle of Venus’s personality. They are like a linkup between the personality’s external and inner conscious sides. Fred Gettings suggests they connect the self-assertive elements with the emotions and are not a favourable marking. The multiple lines, if they follow the shape of the heart line, act as extra heart lines.

Floating Heart Line type of Girdle of Venus

If the line does not reach between the fingers, instead, it seems to ‘float’ above the area of the heart line; it’s a floating heart line. This floating heart line is common when there is no clear heart line or a Simian line present. The personality, in this case, would show much empathy or sensitivity emotionally. This line is often broken or in segments. It can begin between the ring and pinkie space or just below it. Sometimes it is much longer and appears to go across the whole top section of the hand.

A V-Shaped Girdle of Venus

Sometimes the girdle looks like a shape of a V rather than a curved half-circle. In this case, it may be a partial line with a coincidental mix of other lines, not a girdle. There may be rising branch lines from the fate line (Saturn) or the success line (Apollo).

Does a Long Head Line Show Intelligence?

What is a long head line? 

The head line is one of the major palmar creases that represents the mind. In scientific terms, it is called the ‘proximal transverse crease’. This crease usually commences from the space in between the Index finger and thumb and runs horizontally at least halfway across the palm. If the line runs well more than halfway over, it is classified as being long.

When the line runs almost all the way across the palm it is very long. If it crosses completely, it is a Sydney line, or Simian line if there’s no heart line. Initially, the Sydney line, as people understood, was just a rather long head line. Researchers discovered a link between the Sydney line and the Simian crease with various medical and psychological issues, including Down’s syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease, leukemia, and developmental psychological issues.

What is the meaning of the head line?

This line is one of the most significant on the palm because it reveals a great deal about the essence of you. It gives clues as to how you think and manage (mentally). It can show whether you are struggling or sailing along smoothly and how you make decisions. If you are looking for honesty, stability, intelligence, imagination and rationality, the head line is where you can find some of those answers. It is also possible to see signs of physical injury to the head.

LONG HEAD LINE MEANING

A long line displays someone with a broader range of analytical interests, a person who seems to have more intelligence, however, this is unfitting. The theory may have come about because of the attribute of attention to detail and the no-nonsense approach to life that they have.

The very long head line shows a deep, sophisticated thinker, they tend to consider more evidence before making decisions and are more philosophical than those with a short one. If this line runs entirely across the palm, it’s called a Sydney line and gives obsessive qualities. Johnny Fincham describes the Sydney line as someone cut off from their inner feelings. They have a hard edge over their personality.

If the long head line curves towards the base of the palm, it gives a more empathic nature. I have seen this type of line on a doctors hand.

Albert Einstein had an extended head line that was NOT connected to the life line. The disconnected lines show an independent thinker. Albert Einstein, according to researchers, had Asperger’s Syndrome, a higher-functioning type of autism that is characterised by “eccentric” behaviour rather than apparent impairment. People with Asperger syndrome are often labelled as eccentrics. They can lack social skills, be fascinated with complex subjects, and have communication difficulties (especially in children). However, this type of line on its own is not a sign of Asperger’s.

The general character of a person with a long head line is someone with:
  • A wide range of interests
  • Fond of research
  • Can absorb a lot of information
  • Have many hobbies
  • Sees the future outcome or long term results in a project
  • Can be cut off from their feelings (if straight)

Example difference between a long and a short line

Someone with an extended head line and long fingers depicts patience. A person who has a short head line and shorter fingers tend to have less patience mentally. For example, if I ask the, ‘what did you learn from your field trip today?’ The short line response would be, ‘We learned how to ski and all stuff’. The answer is simple and straight to the point.

The person with the long line would reply something like; “the bus trip was extremely long and bumpy, I was already tired before we reached our destination. I had never seen such beautiful surroundings, though I enjoyed every minute of the experience. The best part of the trip was that we were taught how to ski downhill without crashing. Even though I crashed a couple of times, it taught me what not to do. We also learned about how to look after your skis and ski boots, it was fascinating.”

The person with the short head line doesn’t want to bother with tiny details and prefers to get to the point quickly. This type might also have shorter fingers showing some impatience.

What if the line is broken?

Sometimes the head line has a break halfway, so it looks like a short head line, but it continues after the break. If the line is broken, it can be a sign of someone who loses their ‘train of thought’. The continuing of the line is interrupted and so can cause a person to change their mind or have moments of confusion.

MORE ABOUT THE SHORT HEAD LINE

A short line is when it only reaches beneath the Saturn finger. It shows one who has more concerns about practical and routine matters preferring to concentrate on what is going on now without fussing over details; getting straight to the point. They do not like to waste time and so quickly apply what they know through common sense and just do the job.
