Timing Marriage Lines in Palmistry

timing of marriage in palmistry

For those interested in palmistry, the marriage lines in modern hand reading are debatable. However, they still tend to attract some interest. Timing marriage lines are especially so considering the various ages that people marry. These lines are also called union lines, lines of commitment, relationship lines or lines of attachment.

Where is the marriage line?

The marriage lines are the short horizontal lines on the very edge of the palm under the pinkie. Most people have at least one line representing a commitment to at least one person.

Are the lines on the palm really about marriage?

After studying hands for many decades, I see these lines more about attachment. The reason is that almost every person has them, yet not everyone marries. The percentage of the population that has always been single is relatively high! More than 56 million American adults have always been unmarried, representing roughly 60% of the adult unmarried population. – U.S. Census Bureau. “America’s Families and Living Arrangements: 2007.”

In the old palmistry, these marriage lines predicted the number of times a person would marry. Many palmists still do follow that rule. However, my experience has shown that predicting marriages is not as reliable as we would like. To me, they show more about loyalty and the quality of our relationships.

How to read the marriage lines

If you are looking for marriage on the palm, it is wise to use other indicators, such as influence lines like a parallel line on the life line. If the line is marked, it shows a disturbance in the relationship. Steady lines show steady unions.

The usual way to read these lines is that a distinct line shows a long-term relationship (not necessarily marriage). The fine and shorter ones are insignificant or less worthy unions. Nevertheless, each of these lines can represent a phase in our lives and teach us valuable lessons, so in that sense, even the more delicate lines are significant.

Timing Marriage Lines

When will I get married? Probably the second most popular question I have been asked and perhaps one of the hardest to answer. The reason it’s hard is that it’s only a guess. However, traditionally, the timing of marriage lines depends on where it sits on the mount.

The line must be verified (approximately) from the influence lines using the fate line if present. Unfortunately, not all hands will have these lines for confirmation, especially if the skin is coarse and sparsely lined. Another option is finding validation from parallel lines along the life line, using the timing to estimate the age.

When will I marry according to palmistry?

As a general guide, if the line falls below the middle section of the mount, the union is expected to be at a younger age. The higher the line on the mount, the later the marriage is likely to occur. The first quarter mark is around 18-21. The middle section can vary from around age 30-35. The three-quarter mark is around age 42+.

Traditional meanings of marriage lines

Thin Short Lines

Light and short mainly depict a casual or short-term relationship. However, this line can still denote a significant soul mate or long-term marriage. I have seen short lines where there was a long-standing marriage.

If the short line is on the left, it can suggest an arranged marriage or one of convenience (for financial gain). It can also signify that the partner is dominant in the relationship. If there are many short lines, it shows briefer but no less valuable unions that teach us helpful life lessons.

Many lines versus a single line

Some individuals’ hands will reveal every line of every brief affair, and others who have married more than once have only one relationship line (or even none). For some people, the presence of many lines means only casual partners or affairs.

One Single Marriage Line

If a person only has one relationship line, it does not automatically mean they have one life partner, but ideally, that is how they would prefer it. The single line represents more of the person’s attitude, that being loyal and committed to one person at a time.

If long and thick shows searching for the ‘right’ partner, a soul mate. The long thick line represents a soul connection with one life companion in various examples. If they marry again, they will want to keep that same outlook with the new partner.

Two Straight Marriage Lines

Two lines make sense that a person will commit to a relationship more than once. Most people have more than one soul mate. Look to the heart line for breaks or branches that droop towards the head line. The breaks on the heart line show restriction in the ability to feel; the emotional renewal is when the line continues.

A very long relationship line

If the line is so long that it crosses over the mounts under the fingers, it no longer represents a marriage but more about the personality. It depicts someone who is ardent and whose passions are very close to the surface, like the girdle of Venus.

The various ages at which people marry (yet have one line in the same position) show that the individual’s outlook is evident at whatever age the relationship began.
