The index finger, also commonly called the Jupiter finger, can vary in its meaning, depending on whether it is short, long, thin, thick, straight or bent. This digit represents the ego, pride, confidence, security, ambitions, self-image and leadership. It also relates to religious beliefs. The length of it also makes a difference in its significance.

For example, an extended index finger shows a highly ambitious and charismatic personality. These types are proud and easily take on a leading role. A short one, if thick, can have the same meaning. The qualities weaken If it is thin, short or bent.

What does it mean when you have a bent index finger?

A bent index finger is when the finger itself has a curve in the bone. If the finger is just leaning towards the thumb or middle finger, the meaning is different. Simply leaning towards the middle finger shows a shy or introverted nature. Leaning towards the thumb is the opposite, an extroverted and outgoing personality.

An index finger that bends towards the middle finger tells us that something from the individuals past has changed or affected their normal behaviour or attitude. It may be a person who was a shy child or someone who struggled with communication or independence. They may have had to depend on others, especially family.

It can also denote some form of insecurity, possibly due to a history of unfortunate economic times. If the uncertainty or worry is still current in their life, this finger will tend to cling to the middle finger. However, frequently these people grow up to become very self-assertive and determined achievers. They often persistently work towards their goals (and have a dutiful outlook on life). Especially if combined with a strong thumb and a loop of seriousness.

The types of curvatures

When the whole index finger curves towards the middle finger (Saturn), it shows that in relationships, they are prone to be emotionally secretive or feel unstable; exposing a possessive or jealous nature. At the same time, the subject is likely to cling to the security of their partner or their family, especially financially.

When only the very tip is bent, the mental faculties are restrained or reserved, potentially affecting the self-image. The subject might have gone through some change in their life which affected their focus or ideas.

When the index finger leans away from Saturn, towards the thumb, it displays a very extroverted and ambitious nature; these people also like to be in the centre of attention.

If all the fingers appear bent

When all the fingers bend inwards naturally, (not due to arthritis or other), it shows a timid or insecure nature. It can also denote a selfish and shrewd character. The reason for that is that the bend inwards brings all the fingers together, suggesting a lack of openness or willingness. They may have a distortion of reality in their life, which can, in some people, lead to corruption or unlawfulness, especially if the middle finger is short.

Long fingers, whether long compared to the palm or with an extended palm, reveal the personality. It’s essential to see the character when doing a palm reading because the lines alone won’t make sense. The fingers and the handshape help hand readers to know what to make out of all the other signs.

The long fingers show someone who tends to be more mentally than physically active. Technical, slow-moving and slow-talking, their mind is the driving force for their life purpose; carefully seeing every option with their suspicious mind.

This shape is also called the thinking hand. The air hand has a square palm with noticeably long fingers. The lines are clear but more delicate than the ones on the earth hand. The square shape of the palm gives practical, realistic and down-to-earth qualities and the long fingers show the thinking person.

The long fingers depict someone who is mentally active, logical, intelligent, and patient with a love of detail. They like to think things through themselves and tend to be very inquisitive and eager to learn. Hence, make good students. Long Fingers with a Long and Narrow Palm

The narrow, long palm with long fingers is a Water hand. It is also referred to as the feeling hand. The water type has extended palms and long fingers; the hand regularly appears very narrow overall. The fingers are lean with conic or pointed tips. The hands feel soft and kind of damp. There are frequently many fine lines all over the palm, showing someone who is sensitive, intuitive and dreamy.

The more lines there are, the more it suggests poor concentration and a highly strung nature. Mental instability and depression are common issues with the hand full of lines. What to look for to see a businesslike personality:

  1. Looking at the fingers, especially the two middle fingers, they should have knotty joints, giving the appearance of swelling. The knotty fingers are a sign of shrewdness in financial matters (found in many successful business people).
  2. The phalanges between the fleshy parts of the finger joints should be even, revealing a well-balanced mind and personality.
  3. The phalanges on the thumb should also be even. If the tip of the thumb is noticeably shorter than the lower section, it shows a lack of willpower.
  4. The tips of the fingers are fairly thick and either round or squarish. The pointy-looking tips do not suit a businesslike mind.
  5. The ring finger should be a little longer than the index finger.
  6. The mount of Jupiter is well-developed.
  7. The hand shows general good health and firm mounts.
  8. The fingers are straight.
  9. There should be at least one ‘whorl’ fingerprint.
  10. The palm is square than narrow.

Business Success Signs and The Pinkie:

A long pinkie finger shows someone who can easily express themselves. These people can communicate well. One of their best attributes is social, influential, and very organised, with a good vocabulary and raw eloquence. It also means they are naturally good with money and do well in business, politics, science, education, and television or radio broadcasting. Writing, entertaining, and music often come naturally. One central line is the rising line of Apollo (success line). A vertical line that begins low on the palm should clearly and distinctly rise into the mount of Apollo beneath the ring finger. It may also rise from the head line or the heart line. This line beneath the ring finger represents the arts, including fame and fortune. For this success line to show achievement, there must be a clear-cut and continuous line with a sharp definition. Two of these lines are very encouraging for a wealthy person. The hands of a business person often show the fate line (line of Saturn) and are almost always present. In many cases, there are two fate lines.

The head line should be clear and relatively free of flaws and breaks. A poorly formed head line might show a person who struggles to think straight. If there is a fork at the end of the line, it shows versatility. (Writer’s fork). The heart line, if curved, shows someone passionate about what they do and they put their emotion into their work. A straight heart line shows someone less likely to put their feelings into account when it comes to working.
